The Aspen Institute College Excellence Program (Aspen) announced that Dr. Jamilyn Penn, Vice President for Student Services at 新加坡六合彩开奖, is one of 39 leaders selected for the 2024-25 . Applying lessons from over a dozen years researching exceptional community colleges, the Aspen fellowship aims to select and prepare the next generation of presidents who can lead institutions to higher and more equitable levels of student success.

Many sitting community college presidents plan to retire in the next decade, creating an opportunity for college trustees and system heads to select leaders who have the skills and knowledge to achieve better outcomes for students. Aspen Presidential Fellows represent the next generation of college leadership: this incoming class of Aspen Rising Presidents Fellows is 58 percent women, and 55 percent are people of color. The institutions they represent are also diverse, located in 20 states, from small rural colleges to large urban campuses. The fellows, selected through a competitive process, will work closely with highly accomplished community college presidents and thought leaders over ten months to learn from field-leading research, examine demographic and labor market conditions in their communities, assess student outcomes at their colleges, and advance a clear vision for excellent and equitable outcomes for students while in college and after they graduate.

Rising Presidents Fellows aspire to enter a college presidency within five years of completing the fellowship. As fellows, they join a network of over 350 forward-thinking peers鈥�175 of whom are sitting college presidents鈥攚ho are applying concrete, grounded, and innovative strategies to meet student success challenges in their colleges.

According to Dr. Penn, a Steilacoom, WA resident: 鈥淐ollege presidents today face multifaceted challenges, including evolving student demographics, financial constraints, and the imperative to adapt to rapidly changing educational landscapes. My diverse leadership experiences uniquely position me to address these challenges.鈥�

When the first Y.E.L.L. (Young Educated Ladies Leading) Female Summit was held at 新加坡六合彩开奖 10 years ago, attendance was strong 鈥� even back then. This year, the popular annual event is expected to attract close to 300 attendees.

The free summit is for female-identified high school and college students of color and this year鈥檚 featured theme is, Ladies First: reSIStance and Revolution.

鈥淲e want the young ladies in attendance to know they have the power within them to resist any limitations placed on them by society and they can evolve into anything they want to be,鈥� said Tanisha Williams, co-chair of the Y.E.L.L. Female Summit planning committee.

Williams continued: 鈥淭he young women can expect to be in a safe space full of other young women that look like them, and be inspired, motivated, and empowered by presenters that also look like them 鈥� we hope they feel the energy, love, and intention that went into planning this event for them.鈥�

Being the 10 year anniversary of the summit, this year is extra-special and the milestone is being marked with a new Y.E.L.L. Female Summit Scholarship through the 新加坡六合彩开奖 Foundation. All past attendees planning to enroll at 新加坡六合彩开奖 will be able to apply for the scholarship in spring of next year.

In 2014, the inaugural Y.E.L.L. Female Summit was created as an expansion of the Black & Brown Male Summit, which was established in 2009. The theme for that year was 鈥淵our Presence is an Essence,鈥� which has remained the summit鈥檚 mantra over the years.

According to Gerie Ventura, Y.E.L.L. planning committee member, the Y.E.L.L. Summit is one of the best days of the year. 鈥淚 love seeing the young women laughing and enjoying the day with new and old friends. These students have no problems sharing their concerns, hopes, and dreams in the big room. They are ready and willing to participate fully and that’s why I love serving on this committee,鈥� she said.

Some of the presenters for 2024 include Bonita Lee, Sala Sataraka, Bri Quintanilla, Tolu Taiwo, and others. Along with a keynote presentation and workshops, a resource fair will also be held.

鈥淲e are celebrating 10 years of this signature event for black and brown young women and I am most proud about the vision of the summit reaching this level of accomplishment,鈥� said Rashad Norris, co-founder and former community engagement director.

The summit is free but registration is required. Registration closes at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024 or when capacity is reached. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for those who have registered.
